Jupiter Ground System

Hughes was one of the first VSAT manufacturers engaged in Ka band. In North America, Hughes launched the spaceway-3 satellite with a capacity of 10G for the North American market in 2008, using an on-board switching/on-board routing. Hughes launched the 100G echostar-17 satellite in North America in 2012. To date, Hughes has more than 1 million online users in North America alone. In December 2016, Hughes launched 220G echostar-19 Ka satellite which supports 138 spot beams.

While successful in the north American market, Hughes has also won many Ka band projects around the world. Avanti uses Hughes products to provide Ka band communications services for parts of Europe, the Middle East and Africa under two satellites - Hylas 1&2. Yahsat uses Hughes products to serve the Middle East and Africa under the Yahsat 1B satellite. In 2013, Media Networks used Hughes products in Latin America to provide Ka services in South America under the Amazonas 3 satellite. In 2014, Russian satellite communication company (RSCC) also adopted the Hughes Jupiter platform to launch Ka service in the country.

In addition, in April 2014, Hughes bought out all Ka band resources on Eutelsat 65 West A satellite, and provide broadband satellite communication services in Brazil using Jupiter system.

Jupiter system is Hughes' latest generation of high-capacity satellite communication system, supporting DVB-S2x standard. The max capacity of its single outbound carrier rate can be 235Msps, and the max capacity of single rack is up to 10G b/s, which is the highest in the whole industry. HG220 gateway is very suitable for conventional C and Ku band satellite communication applications.

The Jupiter system is ideal for the following applications

  • Internet broadband access
  • Enterprise networking
  • Cellular backhaul (2G/3G/4G/LTE)
  • MPLS network service
  • Voice (VoIP) / video / data dedicated line

Jupiter system delivers maximum capacity and efficiency for HTS applications.

  • Single Gateway DVB-S2 outbound carrier rate up to 235Msps (1Gbps)
  • Jupiter gateway is highly integrated, supporting up to 10Gbps capacity from industry's minimum quantity of racks, as well as light-out operation.
  • Distributed, or centralized gateway architecture
  • Advanced quality of service (Qos) and powerful bandwidth management capabilities
  • Rich IP routing functions

  • Excellent HTTP acceleration performance

  • Hardware-based bi-directional 256-bit AES link encryption
  • VSAT self-installation capability
  • NMS with powerful VNO (virtual network operator) application capabilities
  • Rich and flexible API interfaces for integrations with 3rd-party OSS/BSS systems

Jupiter system supports traditional satellite applications in a cost-effective manner

  • In addition to Ka-band, Jupiter system can also be used for C or Ku-band.

  • Gateway configuration fits applications under 36/54/72 MHz capacity transponders.

    • Scalable multi-IF gateway architecture supports multi-satellite, multi-transponder applications

  • Industry-leading physical layer efficiency, including modulation and roll-off factor

  • Excellent high-level transmission efficiency, increasing data bits transmitted per unit physical bandwidth

Cellular backhaul

  • Bi-directional 650ms transmission delay, 10ms delay jitter performance

  • Up to 200Mb/s terminal throughput for 3G/4G data applications

JUPITER system chip(SoC,System on a chip)

Jupiter terminal is based on the SoC system chip, the first dedicated large-scale integrated circuit (ASIC) in the satellite industry. Multi-core chips support up to 200Mb/s throughput per terminal.
